The only reminder of the school this well-restored property used to be is the blackboard which the charming and helpful owners have kept in the top floor apartment which they use occasionally at weekends as a retreat from the bustle of Bilbao.
The quiet setting is only 1km from Oreña and its shops, and easier still, the nearest restaurant, El Jamon, is 500m down the road, almost visible from the house. Comillas, 14km away, has a Saturday market, while Torrelavega’s is on Thursdays.
The sea is a short 1km walk across the fields, just beyond the Roman church. Seafishing is permitted, and you may choose to spend your time pottering along the coast, or on more adventurous days, delving into the Reserva Nacional de Caza de Saja.

All the accommodation is on the ground floor of this two storey house, which stands in an attractive garden, with parking on the property, a built-in barbecue and a 10m x 5m swimming pool which the owners will use only occasionally. A new tennis court has recently been installed and there is also a table tennis table available.
The property is tiled throughout: entrance is over a covered veranda with comfy wicker chairs and table, into the hall, off which is the sitting room with settee, armchairs, honey floor tiles and satellite TV. Following the hall round, bedroom 1 is the first room on the left, with 2 single beds, chest of drawers and a beautiful wooden bureau and bookcase above. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are on the right, both with views over the fields to the sea. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and bedroom 3 two singles.
The kitchen/dining area is at the far end of the hallway on the left: it is a light and airy room with grey-white tiles, oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine and plenty of fitted units. There is also a table with six chairs around. At the very far end of the house you will find the bathroom, an impressive and spacious room, tiled in grey with a step up to the bath (with shower attachment), washbasin, bidet and WC.
