This typical Minho house takes its name from the charming little granite aqueduct nearby, still in use and supplying water to gardens in the hamlet. The house is situated in a hamlet about 16km from the seaside resort of Pòvoa de Varzim popular with Portuguese holiday makers. Here there are plenty of restaurants providing good value for money. The seaside town of Vila do Conde, near to Pòvoa do Varzim has retained much of its atmosphere. It is an active fishing port and has a lively Friday market. Visit the lace making school, and the beautiful 16th Century Igreja Metriz. The house is also within easy reach of Porto and Braga, and only 8km from Vila Nova de Famalicao and 21km from Guimaraes.
The house is made of granite and is typical of the local architecture of the Minho. Its owner thinks that it could date from the 15th or even the 14th Century.
One enters directly from the garden into the living room. There is comfortable seating arranged in front of the open fireplace, and a dining table to seat 6. Off the living room is a small, separate kitchen. Steps descend to a lobby off which there is a bathroom/WC and two bedrooms: one with 2 single beds, the other with a double bed and French windows to the garden. An external staircase rises to a third bedroom on the first floor which is like a separate studio with kitchenette, comfortable seating, table, double bed and its own shower room/WC.
Outside is a secluded garden mostly of mown grass and overhung with vines typical of the Minho. Over the road in the grounds of the 19th Century manor house of Casa dos Pocos, clients may use the magnificent 16m x 8m swimming pool and the tennis court shared with other guests.
