Quinta do Monte is situated two hours south of Lisbon in the Alentejo province of Portugal, an area of prairie landscapes, dotted with white-washed villages, also known for its outstanding, beautiful coastline and good food and wines.

The property is set in 25 hectares of land, mostly planted with cork trees, and overlooks the River Mira which is just 200 metres away. It is accessed by a country lane of 2.5km, through corn and sunflower fields.

The house has been built around a central courtyard with the interiors decorated in a mix of rustic and stylish furnishings, with wooden beams and stone flagged floors. The accommodation is comfortable and, being a country property, there are some hunting and fishing trophies on the walls, as well as framed butterfly and insect collections. There is an entrance hall with open-plan kitchen/dining room with fireplace and doors which lead out to a covered outdoor dining terrace. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, gas hob/oven, electric grill, washing machine. The living room/library is spacious with fireplace, telephone, television, VCR, CD player and doors opening on to a terrace which faces the river with pergola.

The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom (entrance is through bathroom), river views and door to the terrace. At a lower level are two double bedrooms (small double beds) and a twin bedroom which share a large shower room with separate toilet. All of these bedrooms enjoy river views. The final double bedroom, with en suite bathroom, is split-level and opens on to the courtyard and has use of the bathroom and WC. There is a separate cottage which offers a simple twin bedroom (no bathroom), available on request.

The beach effect Swimming pool (20 x 4m) overlooks the river and there is a thatched gazebo poolside, with sun loungers, barbecue and hammocks, which provides shade. There is a separate pool house with a shower, WC and drinks fridge.

Staff: Maid/housekeeper included 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Cook service on request (payable locally)
