Whether it is from the terrace, the balcony, or the pool, the views from Il Sorbo are quite simply breathtaking. Its location, on the hillside high above Bagni di Lucca (3km), ensures that a 180° panoramic vista can be enjoyed, taking in the terracotta rooftops of the spa town, the village of Lugliano on the ridge opposite, the forest clad hills and, beyond, the spectacular peaks of the Apuane mountains. Il Sorbo is immaculately presented both internally and externally. The interior exudes quality through the pleasing mix of antique and wood furniture, the carefully chosen paintings, and the traditional exposed stone walls. From the living room, doors open out on to the wide covered terrace which in turn gives onto a flawless lawn. To one side, a footpath, edged with cypress trees and a laurel hedge, leads to the sheltered pool area. The country road behind Il Sorbo leads to Benabbio (1km), a village with a small shop and a restaurant. There are more dining venues to be found in Bagni di Lucca in the valley and beyond, ranging from the most unassuming of places to restaurants renowned throughout Italy. And should you feel the need for activity after indulging in the local food, there are plenty of walking opportunities, either through the spectacular countryside or the narrow streets of Lucca, Pisa or Florence.
