Boasting sea views from the first floor terrace, Petra (sister property to Meli) is one of three recently built houses tucked away at the end of a short unmade track on the outskirts of the unspoilt seaside village of Methoni. In the near distance the view across to the Messinian Gulf and the hilltop Venetian fortress is immensely attractive, particularly so in the evening when the imposing stone walls of the castle are brilliantly illuminated. Petra boasts a light, comfortably furnished living area with a modern, open plan kitchen/diner to one side. Doors from both the living and dining areas open directly onto a covered balcony overlooking the garden and permitting easy supervision of poolside activity just below. On the first floor, the bedrooms are brightly decorated, air conditioned and share an open terrace from where the views out towards the coast and the fortress can be fully admired without even leaving your bed! Outside, the attractive garden is interspersed with sheltered lawns and patios around the lovely private pool. A short stroll into Methoni (1.5km) is an enticing option. You will find a wonderful little seaside town replete with a broad, sweeping curved beach of soft sand, a couple of stylish café bars and several widely recommended tavernas serving the freshest seafood, grilled local meats and vegetables. Slightly further afield, the historic and appealing villages of Pylos and Koroni merit special mention while the Messinian Gulf as a whole is bestowed with a wealth of unblemished sandy beaches that are well worth seeking out.
