Meganissi's natural beauty is best experienced by walking through its pleasant countryside.  Katomeri is linked by road to both Spartahori and Vathi and beaches and coves are accessible by walking along paths criss-crossing this small island. A fun way to get to Spartahori is to hire a small boat in Vathi and potter round to the port of Spilia and then walk up the steep path. This picturesque village is perched on the edge of the cliff and has lovely views as well as a maze of lanes too narrow for cars. Whether you splash out the couple of pounds for the ferry and take a trip across to Nidri or not, an outing to Vathi when the ferry comes in is well worth the entertainment – for a few hectic minutes the peace of Meganissi is interrupted by the to-ing and fro-ing of disembarking trucks vying for quay space with cars trying to get on and off. If you are lucky a white suited port official will add to the Greek drama by waving his arms and blowing his whistle in a fruitless attempt to bring order to the chaos.
