Nestled in a clearing at the end of an unmade country track, flanked to one side by a dramatic, plunging gorge and with lovely views across the undulating countryside to the sea, Potami enjoys a private and privileged location. Just 300m away, the picturesque village of Old Maroulas is home to a mini-market and two traditional tavernas while one of the island's best beaches at Platanias, holder of a coveted Blue Flag, is only 4km. Furnished and decorated in simple, traditional style Potami is a welcoming house looked after with great care by its charming local owner Michalis. The ground floor is largely open plan, being both airy and bright with the benefit of independently controlled air conditioning thoughtfully installed in the living area as well as each of the three bedrooms. Mindful of the unique location, Michalis has designed his property to make the most of the privileged outlook. Double doors lead out from the living room directly onto a pergola-covered terrace next to the pool while the two first floor bedrooms share a large balcony. Whichever vantage point you may choose, you will be perfectly positioned to enjoy the excellent views that stretch out over the hillsides to the Cretan Sea. Pleasant though the interior is, we are sure it is the garden and pool area that are destined to become the focus of your holiday attention. It will be a pleasure to spend long sunny days relaxing in the lawned grounds, grilling fresh local produce on the barbecue and dipping in and out of the inviting pool from time to time, especially as the only sound likely to disturb your peace will be the gentle tinkling of the bells around the necks of the goats as they lazily graze the hillsides. Apart from a lovely beach, Platanias is also home to a handfull of tavernas, a couple of café-bars, a gift shop and well-stocked supermarket. Historic Rethymnon is just 9km while a 25 minute drive takes you to the village of Bali where little motor boats can be hired for a fun day on the
