Painstakingly reconstructed from the remains of a 150 year old building, Asterio is a unique property lovingly and thoroughly restored by a caring, considerate owner using many original materials. Finished to a very high standard, this is one of the few stone-built village houses with private pool available for rental on Crete. A real find, which we are thrilled to include in our programme. The property is entered by way of two, solid wood doors set into the substantial stone walls that surround Asterio thus concealing the private swimming pool and attractive courtyard grounds from this traditional, sleepy village. Obvious care has been taken to ensure Asterio retains many of the traditional features found in the mid-nineteenth century house that originally stood on this spot, hence vaulted and beamed ceilings, exposed stonework and hardwood floors are all very much in evidence. Decorated with care and taste, the modern colours, stylish furnishings and items of local and family memorabilia in the living areas combine perfectly with the ultra-modern kitchen, bathrooms and thoughtful installation of air conditioning to create an exceptionally comfortable family home. Externally, the owner has invested the same high levels of diligence in his design and provision of facilities. Shady parasols and chunky wooden sun loungers topped with comfortable mattresses adorn the spacious terraces surrounding the private pool. A substantial in built barbecue has been conveniently placed to one side ensuring many a meal is sure to be enjoyed on the covered dining terrace. While you may not wish to stray far from this exceptional setting, exploring the environs of this unspoilt, rural area will bring many rewards.
