From the ‘Plage des Prises’ to ‘Plage des Folies’ is a continuous beach of fine golden sand, which spreads along a 5 kilometre stretch of coast. Numerous seaside activities are available organised either by the two sailing schools or the kids beach club; or you can go fishing by yourself. Bordered by sand dunes and pine trees, the beaches of La Couarde are completely natural with no buildings to spoil its pristine state. La Couarde sur Mer is a family friendly seaside resort, ideally located half way along the south side of the Island. It has a few shops, including 2 bakeries and an ice cream parlour, as well as 7 restaurants. The village has a labyrinth of flowered streets, a charming port with colourful boats called the Goisil Channel, and a small wooded area pleasant for walks and bike rides. The house is in the village centre just 2 minutes walk from the first boulangerie, a few minutes more from other shops, restaurants plus bike hire, and 10 minutes walk from the beach. You can cycle in 10 minutes to St Martin de Ré which is the ‘capital’ of the Island; it has a lovely port with a host of shops and outdoor restaurants. East of La Couarde you can easily cycle to Loix, famous for its salt marshes; or you can go to St Clement where you will find one of the best beaches on the Island called La Conche.

The property has a walled surround which gives privacy, even though you are in the centre of the village, and you can easily park one or two cars within its grounds. You enter into the main corridor; on your left is a utility room with washing machine, dryer and sink, and in front of you the corridor leads to the kitchen. This is fully equipped with cooker, dishwasher and microwave, plus table and 4 chairs. Via an archway, you come to the main living area with a glass dining table with wrought iron chairs, a large leather corner sofa, a TV, DVD and CD player – French windows open to the garden. Off this room is a bedroom with a double and a single bed. Off the main corridor are two double bedrooms, a separate WC, a bathroom, and a shower room/WC. Outside, the 750m2 garden has a grassy area and a large stone paved terrace running along the house and around the 10m x 5m swimming pool; this has roman steps, a constant 1.40m depth and is maintained year round if clients wish to use it. The house has underfloor central heating, a telephone, plus wireless internet broadband and is ideal for renting out of season.
