Description
We were immediately taken with Chopine Haut, a beautiful and substantial country house situated amidst the gentle rolling countryside of the Lot-et-Garonne, close to the Dordogne border. Its pretty honey coloured stone façade, offset with deep brown shutters and draped with a flourishing vine, created a most welcoming first impression and further exploration of the grounds and the interior only confirmed to us that Chopine Haut should be included in our portfolio. The pool is set to one side to take advantage of the views over the garden towards the small wooded area beyond. Behind the pool, to the rear of the grounds, a small lake covered in water lilies nestles in the corner. Borders brimming with an abundance of flowers define the edges of the terrace in front of Chopine Haut and create a surge of colour that is truly stunning. This wide, stone paved terrace, with its adjoining covered area, will undoubtedly be the focal point for outdoor gatherings. From the terrace, double doors lead into the dining/living room where you are greeted by grandeur on a small scale. This impressive room, with its high beamed ceiling and gallery, would not look out of place in a chateau, albeit a small one! In the living area, a sofa and chairs are grouped around a magnificent stone fireplace whilst a baronial style dining table sits at the other end of the room. Wonderful tapestries and framed paintings adorn the walls. The gallery leads to a library where a day bed from the Napoleonic era invites you to relax, although the card table and French billiards provided may keep you amused. From here, there is access onto the first floor sun terrace, the perfect spot to enjoy the morning sun. The bedrooms are furnished in the same style with beautiful antique furn
