A unique property in a lovely location, Le Portail sits on the edge of the pretty village of Lunac overlooking the gentle patchwork of fields and woodland in this tranquil corner of the Aveyron. Dating back to the 17th Century, it is a beautiful and substantial farmhouse which is now a welcoming and comfortable abode offering a sense of history combined with modern touches, which we are sure will appeal to all who stay here. Entrance to the property is by way of large double gates that open into a spacious courtyard formed by the stone walls of the barns and main house, at the corner of which sits the former pigeonnier. Pots of colourful flowers are grouped by the wide stone steps leading up to the first floor of the house, where all the accommodation is situated. Behind the imposing façade is a graceful interior with rooms that are light, airy and elegantly furnished. Polished wood floors and a mix of exposed stone and painted walls are a backdrop to the pretty floral fabrics and carved wood furniture. Throughout, it is evident that the owners have given much thought and care to the house and guests. In the living room, two seating areas have been created; one around the double sided fireplace, the other by the side window so as to enjoy the views up to the village. In one of the bedroom suites, the pink roses embroidered on the rugs echo the carved flowers on the bedstead and the pink of the painted beams. The other bedrooms are as delightful, each with its own colour theme and all boasting tall paned windows overlooking the countryside. The pièce de résistence, however, is the spectacular modern metal framed balcony, which is revealed through the French windows in the dining and living rooms. This contemporary structure is a stunning contrast to the ancient stone façade and provides a welcome al fresco dining space on the first floor; indeed just to sit there and enjoy the 180º views across the countryside and to the village is simply a joy.
