As we turned the corner of a country lane, this impressive, honey coloured stone property appeared before our eyes. We immediately knew that Couyoula would be a most welcome addition to our portfolio of houses in this picturesque corner of the Tarn-et-Garonne. This substantial farmhouse has been lovingly restored to exacting standards to create a stunning home. The golden stone exterior with its mullioned windows sets the tone for the rest of the property. As we wandered through the house, we could not help but marvel at the attention to detail and exquisite decoration. Original features have been retained, such as the exposed stone walls and the oak beamed rafters found in the bedrooms. Yet a true sense of space and light prevails throughout creating a modern day version of a French farmhouse. Each room is spacious and beautifully decorated. Both the principal bedroom and living room occupy the length of the former barn wing and look out onto the pool. The heart of any farmhouse is of course the kitchen and here is no exception. The long dining table takes centre stage in the generously sized room, whilst the kitchen itself is well equipped with all modern facilities. A door leads out to the covered stone balcony where many a meal can be enjoyed. From the balcony, wide stone hewn steps lead down to the garden and the pool. Bordered by a bank of lavender on one side and a variety of flowers and bushes on the other, the pool is of an ideal size for serious swimming or to simply dip in and out of. To one side lies the lawned area, which in turn leads onto a field and a copse of trees. Also within the grounds is a floodlit boules pitch, adding a real French flavour to the property. With three acres of grounds, there is plenty of space for everyone. We would probably find it hard to leave such a delightful spot but should you wish to do so, there is much to see in the area.
