Built in 1707 and formerly a hospice, La Maison Caignac was offers comfortable spacious accommodation for up to 17 people. The Pyrenees are easily accessible, as is the Mediterranean at Narbonne-Plage. Situated in the centre of Caignac, a quiet, hilltop village of just 120 residents, La Maison Caignac takes up one side of the village’s main street and is just a short stroll from a bar/café and mini-market which even has occasional live accordion music at weekends!
The two acres of ground that the house is set in incorporate formal gardens and a small wood and the property enjoys lovely views over the surrounding undulating countryside.
The property is ideal for several families holidaying together as the house can be split into three separate units of three bedrooms, two bedrooms and one bedroom, by locking two connecting doors. However, the large country kitchen, dining room and salon still allow for communal dining and socialising. The central kitchen has a beamed ceiling and stone floor and is fully-fitted with blue country style units. It is very well-equipped with oven, microwave, central work island with hobs, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, food processor and breakfast bar. Cockerel figures and tiles add to the country feel of this large room. Just off this room is the laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. The reception rooms comprise an elegant lilac and cream dining room which can accommodate 12 and the grand salon, measuring 16 x 9 metres. This impressive room, with wooden beams and stone floor, has a big brick fireplace at one end with comfortable sofas and television. French windows open on to the pool terrace. There is also a mezzanine with library and computer area which runs the width of the house. There is also a shower room on the ground floor.
The large Master double bedroom with exposed stone walls is in the central part of the house and has a marble bathroom en suite with open walk-in shower and a dressing room. This room interconnects with the West wing which comprises two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom. The bedrooms share a full bathroom with free-standing roll top bath and a separate shower room.
On the ground floor of this wing is a fully-equipped kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and door to the terrace. There is a living room with fireplace and dining table to seat six.
The East wing is accessed from the main salon and comprises a fully equipped kitchen which opens on to the pool terrace and a living room with wood-burning stove and pool table. On the first floor are two twin bedrooms, one of which can be made up as a double and has an extra bed suitable for a child, which share a full bathroom.
The heated, salt water swimming pool measures 12 x 6 m and is surrounded by terracing and flower beds. There is an additional paddling pool of 3m in diameter at one corner for children. At one end of the terrace is a large barbecue area with oven and rotisserie and a dining area under a pergola covered with climbing plants. Additional outdoor facilities include a 1m square garden chess set, a cricket net and a golf driving range.
