The village of Plazac with its Romano-Gallic church, friendly café bar, boulangerie, post office and tennis courts is a short walk across the garden. More shops, restaurants, banks and a Sunday market at Rouffignac, three miles away and the riverside town of Montignac, 10 miles away. Medieval Sarlat is an easy 20 miles drive and the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies are on the doorstep with many wonderful walks in the surrounding hills and woods.

The house is built of natural golden limestone and surrounded by more than an acre of perfectly kept lawned gardens bounded by a stream and with mature walnut and fruit trees, a rich wildlife habitat. At one side, but quite separate, is the house of the friendly and welcoming English speaking Dutch owners. The swimming pool (11x4.5m) has umbrellas, sun loungers and poolside shower. From the kitchen a door leads to a wooden deck (5x3.5m), ideal for dining ‘al fresco’, below is a barbecue area, both with teak furniture.

The vast living space has been imaginatively created at first floor level with windows on four sides, dominated by a superb inglenook fireplace in local stone. The atmosphere is of a compact, medieval castle, the main part of the open plan room open to the roof trusses and the floor boarded in chestnut with comfortable sitting area with two sofas and armchair, large round dining table and some fine antique furniture. CD player, music library, books, games and satellite TV. Two upper floor twin bedrooms, both with wash basin, are tucked under the rafters, reached by open tread stairs, and lit by glazed doors forming a gallery above the living area. Modern kitchen area behind a long bar equipped with gas/electric hot plate, oven, microwave, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Shower room with vanity unit, separate wc, laundry area with washing machine and a hallway, tiled in limestone leading to the attractive double bedroom with velux windows and king size bed (single mattress on double divan). Pool towels and bathrobes are available locally for hire on request. Telephone for incoming/outgoing calls and internet connection. Bed and household linen and bath towels included.
