Château Lagus is a unique and very distinctive country mansion dating back to the 14th Century. It is set within 60 acres of unspoilt grounds and woodland, part of which is believed to be the last natural truffle estate in the Dordogne. The architectural scale of the property is deceptive and conceals spacious reception rooms with monumental fireplaces, natural stone walls and lofty, heavily beamed ceilings.

Originally a fortified house, arrow slots and shooting holes still remain in the lovely tower bedroom. An archway from the lane leads to a gravelled courtyard which is enclosed by the many outbuildings, one of which is a tiny 16th century chapel.

Main House: From the courtyard, stone steps lead up to an old flagstone terrace and the two main entrances. A reception hall leads to the magnificent grand living room that measures 10.5 x 7.5 m. It has exposed stone walls, a heavily beamed ceiling, polished wood floors and an imposing open stone fireplace. It has been comfortably furnished with a range of good quality sofas and upholstered cane armchairs. From here, a door leads to the second raised terrace to the rear of the property where there is teak dining furniture and a built-in barbecue and steps leading down to a large lawned rear garden. Next to the grand living room is a tastefully furnished and less formal family living room, with satellite television and video. There is a cloakroom off the hallway. There is a formal dining room with a large oak dining table and sufficient chairs to seat 12 people, a large open fireplace, polished wood floors and a French door to the rear terrace.

The second main entrance leads to the spacious farmhouse kitchen with plenty of fitted cupboards and worktops, a terracotta tiled floor, large open fireplace and an oak refectory table with sufficient seating for 8 people. It is well-equipped with 3 gas hobs, 2 electric ovens, 1 microwave, 2 dishwashers and 2 fridges. A long corridor with fitted hanging cupboards leads to one large double bedroom and two large twin bedrooms, each with spacious bathroom en suite.

From the dining room, a door leads to the upper floor of a self-contained wing within the Château. A sitting room, which can be used for put-up beds, leads to two adjoining bedrooms, one of which has a large bathroom en suite.

A wooden staircase leads from the ground floor to the lower ground floor and hallway with access to the lane. Entered through a stone archway, the attractively furnished sitting room has a flagstone floor, huge open fireplace and television. A door from the sitting room leads to a private walled garden with teak garden furniture and a gate to the rear garden.

There is a newly fitted kitchen with similar facilities to the main kitchen and a breakfast table and chairs. There is also a separate shower room and a separate cloakroom.

A staircase next to the main kitchen leads to the first floor bedrooms. There is a dormitory bedroom with two single beds and two additional mattresses located on a mezzanine level which is accessed by a ladder. From a corridor with steeply sloping beamed ceilings, doors lead to a separate cloakroom and a bathroom. There is a further attractive suite of rooms with a spacious carpeted twin bedroom with wonderful sloping exposed beams.

This bedroom also has an open wooden staircase which leads down into the second tower where there are two further single beds. This room is ideal for children. The twin beds can be put together to make large double beds if required.

There is a separate laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing facilities and a large freezer.

Guest Cottage: Larger groups can take advantage of a separate cottage and guest suite which together provide accommodation for a further 6 people. Entrance to the cottage is from the lane where there is space for parking. There is a large, open plan, fully fitted kitchen with gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine/dryer with a dining area and comfortable seating around a wood burning stove. The large salon (10 x 5m) has its own entrance from the lane. Doors at either end inter-connect with the cottage and the guest suite. The original stone fireplace is an imposing feature of this very attractive room which is furnished with two large sofas, coffee tables and has satellite television. There is a bathroom on this level. A wooden staircase leads to the landing off which is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom (beds can be pushed together) which share a full bathroom.

Guest Suite: The guest suite comprises a ground floor apartment and is accessed from the lane. It is ideal for a couple or a single member of staff. The delightful main room is beautifully furnished and retains the original wooden beams. The vaulted ceiling extends to the full height of the building, adding to the feeling of space and character. There is a double bed, sofas and satellite television. The fully fitted kitchen is well-equipped with gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine/dryer with a dining area. There is a full bathroom and separate cloakroom.

The swimming pool benefits from having sun throughout the day, and measures 12 x 6 m. It can be heated in low season. It is surrounded by terracing and a lawned area. There is a large grass courtyard to the rear of the property that is backed by an enormous wine-making barn, built in the 18th century and has now been transformed into an indoor games hall with badminton, volleyball and a half-size basketball court. There is a shower room and two cloakrooms.

Maid servica and fresh towels twice per week, fresh linen once per week.
