Ideally placed for Menton self-catering holidays,Villa Olivier is a completely restored, 1900s villa situated in Menton, close to the border with Italy. It sits in a residential area, overlooking the sea and port, surrounded by exotic Mediterranean flora and fauna.
Walking downhill, you can reach the sandy beach and port in 10 minutes, or the old town in 15 minutes, both with a selection of restaurants and cafes - but as you wine and dine and soak up the delightful atmosphere, remember the walk back home is uphill - or hail a taxi!
The Italian border is only 800 yards, so you may prefer a stroll into Italy. Friday is the day for the large, popular market in Ventimiglia.
In the early 1900s many English aristocrats built houses in Menton because of it' s favourable climate,and many are open to the public to experience a time gone by. Monaco is 10 miles along the coastline with its famous Casino and Royal Palace.

• Terraced grounds - although there are balustrades and railings, care must be taken with young children on the terraces. Small town garden with exotic plants and lovely views, plunge pool, barbecue. The caretaker lives unobtrusively in a self-contained apartment on the lower ground floor of the house - this has independent access.
